Welcome to My Personal Page
Sydney Mariel Aronson
My name is Sydney Aronson, and this will be my first year volunteering with AYUDA. I am beyond excited to go to the Dominican Republic and organize diabetes education initiatives for young people living with diabetes. When in-country, we will work directly with our partner organization, Aprendiendo a Vivir (AAV - "learning to live"), in order to maximize our effect. We will help in many different settings in the Dominican Republic such as "Campo Amigo," an education camp for kids with diabetes, as well as working in hospitals and doing home visits.
Currently I am a junior at John Jay High School in Cross River, New York. When I stumbled upon this program, it struck me that it was the perfect match for me. Over the last few years, I have found a love for children while partaking in tutoring, babysitting, being a camp counselor, and assisting children at my dance studio, and the emphasis on helping children in this program is incredible. I also have been taking Spanish in school, and I would love to expand my limited knowledge to outside countries. Previously, I have travelled to Ecuador and Costa Rica on community service trips, and the cultural differences amazed me. I never want to stop learning more and helping other communities as much as I can.
This summer, I will embark on a life-changing experience in the Dominican Republic (DR) as a volunteer for AYUDA. Together with AAV and my fellow volunteers, we will organize diabetes education initiatives for young people living with diabetes, such as Campo Amigo and hospital and home visits.
AYUDA is a non-profit volunteer organization that empowers youth to serve as agents of change in diabetes communities around the world. AYUDA is dedicated to supporting local diabetes communities in their development and implementation of sustainable and global diabetes programs. AYUDA’s innovative peer-learning model uses international volunteers as catalysts for empowering local youth living with diabetes to live happy and healthy lives.
AYUDA endeavors to remain a grassroots volunteer organization in a unique way: by asking its volunteers to participate in fundraising for their programs. In fact, without fundraising by volunteers like me, AYUDA’s in-country work would not be possible.
